The World Monument Protection Fund has named 25 attractions, the existence of which may soon be in doubt, writes The New York Times.
The fund publishes the list every 2 years according to the analysis of various risk factors: military conflicts, natural disasters, human negligence.
Thus, the 2020 list includes Notre Dame Cathedral, which survived the devastating fire, and Machu Picchu, which may receive irreparable damage if a new airport is built nearby.
The fund identified, for example, the Iwamatsu region in Japan, the Anarkali market in Lahore (Pakistan), and the monuments on Easter Island in Chile, as a list of objects that soon run the risk of disappearing from the face of the Earth.
